Here's something out of the ordinary: Me, indie rock and pop lover, recommending house music. But I discovered "Dream Machine" mixed by House DJ Mark Farina, a true innovator of the genre, and it's been on my "current obsessions" playlist ever since.
Farina first made waves in the industry with his 1989 release "Mood," the first ambient house track ever created and now considered a classic. And his bluesy Chicago roots are evident (although he now calls San Fran home) in his original downtempo music style, dubbed "mushroom jazz;" the 6th volume in this compilation series is out this October. The song I love falls into the latter category. It combines a Middle Eastern flavor with brooding vocals by Sean Hayes and an extended length for maximum dance time. Conceptually synonymous with Thievery Corporation's "Lebanese Blonde."
